The NEW AGAIN rug collection was born out of Petrina’s long-held fascination with traditional crafts and a sense of nostalgia for bygone eras, with an interest in interpreting these themes into the modern world. Referencing family memories and crafts handed down through generations, the collection has seen these themes reinterpreted to sit within both traditional and modern interiors. The NEW AGAIN collection blends historical reference with contemporary style, and bold colour palettes and textures. Everything old is... NEW AGAIN.
Petrina Turner’s first rug collaboration with Designer Rugs is a full circle moment, perfectly fitting for someone who holds tightly to the places and people that have influenced her life. Petrina began her design career almost 30 years ago in the design and production team at Designer Rugs, going on to become their senior designer. When she moved on to grow her interiors business she left with an invaluable wealth of experience and the support of her Designer Rugs family. Her passion for rugs did not end there though. Petrina has been creating bespoke rugs ever since that form the centre piece for many of her projects.
Hand-made from a combination of 100% New Zealand wool + Bamboo, all designs in the NEW AGAIN collection can be custom coloured and sized to become a part of your own personal story.

EVELYN
Inspired by my paternal grandmother Evelyn’s intricately crocheted doily I wanted to give new life to her beautiful handwork and bring it into the current day. Birthdays and Christmas’ would often include the gift of a crisp white handkerchief intricately crocheted by Grandma. She lived with us when I was young and I remember her pretty doilies around the house. After her passing my mum gave me a cherished set of three doilies and EVELYN is my thanks to Grandma for this gift.

HIGH TEA
My earliest childhood memories included seeing my mum’s beautiful creations as a talented tailoress, and my tiny fingers sewing jewel-like buttons onto discarded scraps of fabric with coloured thread as she worked. I also have some of her first stitched pieces from when she was a girl. It sparked a love of all things stitched including a vintage cross-stitched table cloth that I picked up from a tiny treasure trove many years ago. It’s many tea stains are testament to my love of sharing stories with friends and family over a beautifully set table and HIGH TEA.

PURLS OF WISDOM
PURLS OF WISDOM is a graphic interpretation of an age-old craft. We all have fond memories of hand knitted jumpers and scarves made with love by a favourite aunt or grandmother. And my childhood was no different. From a long line of talented yarn lovers I was taught from a young age to knit, crochet and knot from my mum and many aunties. With these lessons always came fascinating family stories that left me wanting more.

MAVIS
Childhood memories are filled with visits to my maternal grandma Mavis’ home. Family meals finished off with her delectable trifle, her beautiful garden where I would spend hours playing in the sun, and the delicious floral paintings and delicate tapestries that hung on her walls... and still do today. Grandma is one of the most beautiful, strong and graceful women I know and we often refer to her as The Queen. MAVIS is a reminder of our tight-knit family, and the ties to tradition that inspire me today.
